The Kharkiv-based cheerleading team Nice Ladies was founded in 2016. They hold the Ukrainian Guiness Record as the Eldest Cheerleading Team of Ukraine, won several prizes in regional and national competitions and regularly take part in the European Championships. Currently, the team prepares for the one in Germany in summer 2024.
Help us to gather funds to get the team Nice Ladies to the European Championships! This will cover their monthly spending on training hall rent in Kharkiv, Ukraine, costumes and fees for training help and preparation for the upcoming championships. By supporting the Nice Ladies, you support not only their sport and Ukraine, you support the team's resistance and send a message to the world: the damage can be restored with persistence and sticking to your passion no matter what.
With the escalation of russia’s brutal war on Ukraine, the seemingly unbreakable bond of a vibrant cheerleading team of 50+ y.o. women called "Nice Ladies" is challenged. As many other communities in Ukraine, the war has a lasting impact on their livelihood and unity. While the Armed Forces of Ukraine and army volunteers ensure that the sky above Kharkiv is safe and the city itself is not occupied, the Nice Ladies are trying to keep on navigating how to live their lives in circumstances of the ongoing war. Having a chance to still do what gives the Ladies strength is essential and vital in such times.
The originally Kharkiv-based Nice Ladies team is currently split between Kharkiv itself and other cities of Ukraine and Europe. Some team members stayed, some fled to The Netherlands, Germany, Austria and other countries. Some Ladies eventually leave and others come back to Ukraine, depending on current events and risks (such as energy blackouts, risk of occupation, shelling and progress of the counter-offensive).
The Ladies keep in touch via their team chat despite the growing distance and do all they can to stay close.
The part of the team that stayed in Kharkiv keeps on training, however due to heavy attacks on the city many sports halls are bombed or damaged. Therefore, the team has to keep finding alternative ways to keep up the cheerleading practice and continue to perform at the local championships. Currently they are preparing for the European Championships in Germany in the Summer of 2024. Please help us to support their resistance and passion.
Thank you!
